SOUTH HADLEY — The community group Know Your Town will convene a public forum next week on whether commercial marijuana sales should be prohibited in South Hadley.

Voters will decide during the town election April 9 whether to approve or reject the ban, which was placed on the ballot by the Selectboard.

A summary of ballot question 3 says a “‘Yes’ vote would indicate you favor banning (not allowing) the retail sale, commercial cultivation, testing, manufacturing, packaging, distribution or any other commercial activity related to marijuana/cannabis products as described or allowed in Massachusetts General Law or Town of South Hadley by-laws. A ‘No’ vote would indicate you favor allowing (not banning) the sale, testing, manufacturing, commercial cultivation, packaging, distribution or other type of licensed cannabis/marijuana related businesses.”

The Know Your Town forum will convene March 29 at 7 p.m. at the South Hadley Town Hall auditorium, 116 Main St.

Ray Hershel will moderate the discussion that includes three invited guests who will speak in favor of the sales ban, and three opposed. Each side will be allotted 15 minutes total to present their views on the ban.

“Audience members may then question the panel members,” KYT said in a statement announcing the forum.

Refreshments will be served at the program’s conclusions.

Massachusetts voters legalized recreational marijuana in the November 2016 election. South Hadley voters favored legalization 4,779-4,445.
