Two women, one man arrested after Cranston graduation party (WJAR)
CRANSTON, R.I. (WJAR) —
Cranston police confirm to the NBC 10 I-Team that they have charged two women with violating Rhode Island’s social host law and arrested one man for alleged sexual assault – after a graduation party in the city.
Major Todd Patalano said police were tipped off to the alleged crimes after a June 9 party on Stevens Road ended badly.
One 18-year-old woman was taken to the hospital by ambulance, after she may have overdosed on chocolate marijuana edibles and Jello shots.
Another female victim was allegedly sexually assaulted later that night, said police.
Police charged 40-year-old Kimberly Ruggiero, who they said hosted the party at her home, and 46-year-old Carolyn Bird, of East Providence, with violating the social host law (providing alcohol to minors).
Both were charged Wednesday night and released after a “thorough investigation”, said Patalano. They are due in court on July 10.
Police also arrested 24-year-old Joseph Kirtlink. He was arraigned on first-degree sexual assault charges, stemming from an incident later that night at the graduation party, said Patalano. Kirtlink is being held without bail.
