CHICOPEE — Mass Alternative Care Inc. plans to open its medical marijuana facility by the first week in August at 1247 East Main St. with 35 employees, company officials said at a “community outreach” meeting Thursday.

“We’re committed to being a good neighbor in Chicopee,” company official Kevin Collins said.

About a dozen people attended the meeting at Charles C. Kennedy Post, 41 Robbins Road.

The medical marijuana facility will occupy the former Chicopee Engineering Associates building where Collins said the company has done $6 million in renovations.

Mass Alternative Care Inc. also is pursuing a license from the Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission to operate a recreational marijuana business at the same location, Collins said.

The business has received a special permit and a zone change from the Planning Board and City Council, which will allow it to open the facility on the border of Springfield.

Police Chief William Jebb, who attended the meeting, said residents can be assured the Mass Alternative Care facility will safe. The 24-hour surveillance system with direct feed to the Chicopee Police Department and other features makes the building “the safest in the city.”
