BAY CITY, MI – Two former Detroit Lions players made a stop at a Bay County marijuana dispensary to celebrate the facility’s grand opening.

Former Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson and former Lions guard Rob Sims visited Hashish Boyz at 305 N Euclid Ave. as a part of a large, outdoor grand opening celebration for the newest recreational and medical cannabis store in Bangor Township on Friday, April 9.

“I’m not from up here but I do see the density shops I can say…..definitely, people use their cannabis and believe in their wellness up here,” Johnson said about Bay County’s growing cannabis industry.

Sims and Johnson represented their cannabis research company ‘Primitiv’. According to Primitiv’s website, the company was founded by both Johnson and Sims, who both suffered from the long-term physical effects of injuries sustained during their career.

“In a physically demanding sport like professional football, players learn to deal with the pain,” said a statement on the company’s website. “Often, they are prescribed opioid painkillers for treatment, which can lead to dependency and addiction. Johnson and Sims felt the need for a more holistic approach to their pain management.”
