Back in July, Evan Turner agreed to sign with the Boston Celtics. The team wanted to add three players for training camp, though, and couldn’t do so with Turner’s contract on the books. So he didn’t officially ink the contract. He still hasn’t, but he should soon.

The Celtics kept Turner in limbo for a bit more flexibility throughout the offseason. Now, though, we’re fewer than 10 days away from training camp. The Celtics still need to trim at least one other player from their roster by then, plus two additional bodies before the regular season. Those numbers do not include training camp invitees Tim Frazier, Christian Watford and Rodney McGruder; all have little to no chance of making the final cut and could be destined for the Maine Red Claws.

One gets the feeling Danny Ainge would like to find a trade, maybe one that would open a roster spot for Chris Johnson. Brandon Bass, Jeff Green, Marcus Thornton and Keith Bogans’ contract should all be highly available. But especially with the Celtics aiming to keep future cap space, finding value for the veterans should prove difficult. Unless Ainge has something up his sleeve, Johnson, Bogans and Chris Babb — who all have nonguaranteed contracts — could very well be out of luck.
