FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Red Sox play Minnesota in the first game of their Grapefruit League schedule tonight at Hammond Stadium across town in Fort Myers.
Joe Kelly is on the mound for the start and will toss one inning. Matt Barnes, Brian Johnson, Junichi Tazawa, Edward Mujica, Alexi Ogando, Robbie Ross, Tommy Layne and Heath Hembree are each set to toss one inning.
The Red Sox won’t post the lineups until just before the game, but they post which players will be playing for scheduling purposes.
INFIELDERS: Mike Napoli, Dustin Pedroia, Xander Bogaerts, Pablo Sandoval, Sean Coyle, Jeff Bianchi, Brian LaHair, Deven Marrero, Travis Shaw
OUTFIELDERS: Allen Craig, Jackie Bradley, Jr., Bryce Brentz, Quintin Berry
CATCHERS: Christian Vazquez, Blake Swihart, Matt Spring
The game will be televised on MLB Network and on 93.7 WEEI FM. (Here’s the full broadcast schedule.)
Manager John Farrell noted on Wednesday that he generally likes to keep the regular infielders and outfielders together on alternating days.
Once the games begin in ernest it will provide any every-other-day schedule for the starters.
“I wouldn’t group the whole infield,” Farrell said. “I’ll definitely keep Pedey and Bogey together as much as possible as they continue to build their rapport, but at least through these first couple of games, it’s split up outfield and infield.”
The Red Sox are anxious for the major-league slate of games set to begin.
“I think everyone is ready for this phase,” Farrell said. “I look at three dates in camp, it’s the first day of camp, it’s the first game, and it’s the day you break. Those are high points I think. everyone is ready to start to get into their regular routines pre-game and start to compile at-bats, innings pitched, we’re into that … somewhat of the foundation has been laid to this point. The game schedule is when things really start to take shape.”

– Rusney Castillo is out indefinitely with an oblique strain. Farrell was a guest on Keith Olbermann’s show on Wednesday and said they’d give Castillo 10 days to two weeks before reevaluating.
– Craig Breslow is on the rebound from a rough 2014 season.
