New England Patriots running back LeGarrette Blount will begin training camp on the non-football injury list, joining quarterback Matt Flynn, defensive tackle Alan Branch and offensive lineman Caylin Hauptmann.
It’s possible that all four failed their conditioning tests. They are eligible to return to the practice field at any time.
Branch, a 325-pound mammoth in the middle of the Pats defense, missed all of OTAs before returning for minicamp.
Depending on how long Blount is on the sidelines, there could be ample opportunity for Jonas Gray to showcase himself as the lead back. Gray ran for 201 yards against the Colts in Week 11 this past season, but is not considered a lock to make the roster this summer.
