Bruins Make Minor Change, Swap Cunningham for Griffith – Boston.com (blog)
The morning after their embarrassing 4-0 loss to the Washington Capitals, the Bruins made a change at the forward position, switching out one Providence player for another.
Right wing Seth Griffith was recalled to Boston, while center Craig Cunningham was assigned to Providence, the team announced Sunday morning. Griffith took part in the teams Sunday morning practice at TD Garden.
Cunningham has played 34:17 in three games with the Bruins this season, registering two shots. In Saturdays 4-0 loss to Washington at the TD Garden, he tallied 12:24 of ice time with a shot and three hits. Hes played five career NHL games all with the Bruins.
Griffith, a 21-year-old right shot winger, is a one-year veteran of the AHL, playing 69 games with Providence last year, scoring 20 goals with 30 assists. In Providences season opener on Friday against the St. Johns Ice Caps, Griffith had a goal on three shots as the PBruins beat the Ice Caps 2-1 in overtime, while he also tallied three shots on Saturday in Providences 3-1 loss to the Portland Pirates.
The switch of the center Cunningham for the winger Griffith could indicate that the Bruins are ready to activate center David Krejci, who missed the first three games after being placed on injured reserve due to an injury he suffered in the final game of the preseason. Krejci is eligible to come off IR for Mondays game against the Colorado Avalanche.
