The Boston Bruins played their first preseason game against the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday night, and the B’s took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.

With about 12:30 left in the second period, the Canadiens had a great chance to tie the game on a 2-on-1 scoring chance, but they were stopped by Bruins goalie Niklas Svedberg. The Swedish netminder, who started for the Providence Bruins last season, made a tremendous stop with his right pad to preserve Boston’s lead.

Svedberg is expected to be Tuukka Rask’s backup in Boston this season. He went 25-15-4 with a .910 save percentage and a 2.63 goals against average for Providence in 2013-14.

The Habs went on to win 3-2.
