In need of extra roster space, the Boston Celtics have waived Christian Watford, ESPN Boston’s Chris Forsberg reported Friday afternoon.

Watford had accepted a training camp invitation, but did not even make it that far with the Celtics. The club’s already-bloated roster needed further trimming after Thursday night’s four-for-one trade with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Chris Babb and Chris Johnson, two holders of nonguaranteed contracts, were also waived after the trade. Down to 20 players, the league limit throughout the offseason, the Celtics still need to clear one roster spot to officially sign Evan Turner in time for training camp Tuesday.

Of the players acquired Thursday, only Dwight Powell has a fully-guaranteed deal for 2014-15. John Lucas III and Malcolm Thomas have nonguaranteed contracts, while Erik Murphy holds just a small guarantee.

Tim Frazier and Rodney McGruder also signed training camp deals.
