Note: UCLA’s ‘home’ matches for Oct. 15 (vs. Oregon) and Oct. 17 (vs. Oregon State) will be played at Crossroads School in Santa Monica. Both matches are at 7:30 p.m. and are free admission, as are the four contests at Pepperdine.
FULLERTON, Calif. – Freshman Olga Strantzali had a season-best 17 kills to go with eight digs, while sophomore Claire Felix added 11 kills, as the 22nd-ranked Bruins swept Georgetown on Friday at the Fullerton Classic. Set scores were 25-16, 26-24, 25-18.
The Bruins (7-2) hit .330 for the match, their 48th-straight win when posting at least a .300 hitting percentage. Felix committed just one error in 15 attempts for a career-best .667 percentage, Strantzali hit .355 and sophomore Izzy Carmona was error-free, with six kills in 14 swings (.429).
Senior Julie Consani recorded 38 assists, four digs and four blocks. Sophomore Taylor Formico paced UCLA with 10 digs, junior Karly Drolson added eight and sophomore Jennie Frager tallied five kills and five blocks.
UCLA never trailed in the opening set. Tied at three, kills by Felix, Consani and freshman Reily Buechler put the Bruins up 6-3. After a Georgetown sideout, a Hoya attack error, a kill by junior Karsta Lowe and a combo block by Consani and Frager put the Bruins up by five at 9-4. The Hoyas would get no closer than two the rest of the way.
